Is the hidden text really gone?
Yes. Pages with redactions are rebuilt as flattened images, so the text under the boxes is destroyed, not just covered. It cannot be copied or recovered.
What happens to pages without redactions?
Only pages where you drew a box are flattened; other pages are kept as they were.
